Welcome to our website dedicated
to the welfare of the Trailhound in the UK. We
are an independent information website and Group of Trailhound owners,
we have no association with the HTA, Lakeland Trailhound Welfare (Cumbria)
or other organisations in the UK who deal with Trailhounds and we
have been asked to make this very clear. We do retain strong
links with LTW (Norfolk) to whom we are indebted for the use of their
facilites for our "get togethers".
This breed of hound is sometimes
also known as Fell Hound, Cumbrian Hound, Border Hound and or Lakeland
Hound; and possibly some names we have not encountered.
We have tried to put together some
information which will help anyone thinking of rehoming or acquiring
a Trailhound, as we only want to see the best for the Trailhound breed
in the UK.
We started as novices to the breed
in 2005, but soon found we were converted and would generally not
think of any other breed of dog in the foreseeable future. Albeit
we are and always have been serious animal lovers (cats, birds, tropical,
marine and cold water fish, mice, gerbils, rabbits, hamsters, guinea
pigs) and dog owners of several breed types (3 x Old English Sheepdogs,
an Australian Red Clouded Kelpie and a Labrador) over the years.
That said, in February 2008 we decided
to rehome Suzie (formerly Susan), who is a Belgian Malinois, who was
found as a stray in Dumfries. Adopted from the Dogs Trust at Snetterton,
she has settled in well despite her ordeal and has become a great
playmate for Max and a companion for Lady.
Please read on if you would like
to find out more about the breed and becoming a Trailie owner.
